The article presents the procedure for how to develop a mathematical model for the prediction of NO concentrations in the ambient air based on the dimensional analysis and on the method of the Buckingham it theorem. The aim of this study is to examine options for estimating the parameters of the models and to develop models for a nitrogen oxides formation concentration prediction in outdoor air. The established model based on selected physical parameters such as roughness, temperature moreover atmospheric pressure and wind speed as well as precipitation. The investigation is based on field measurements of the selected quantities. As part of the examination various dimensionless relationships were derived to show that between operating parameters and the NO formation there is a significant correlation. The obtained results, which are further described in the article, have proved that fact. The developed mathematical model has been verified using measured data in Kosice and the samplings were taken in the course of a three-month measurement period. The differences between the nitrogen oxides concentrations predicted from developed models and measured concentrations in the outdoor air are also discussed here.
