Increased risk of lung cancer mortality among residents near an asbestos product manufacturing plant
Abstract
In the July/September 2010 issue, typographical errors appeared in the article, “Increased Risk of Lung Cancer Mortality among Residents near an Asbestos Product Manufacturing Plant,” by Shinji Kumagai, et al.
The article should have read:
Page 271: “Brinkman indices in men and women with smoking history were 480 and 340 cigarettes/day X year[not cigarettes/day], respectively, as of January 1992.”
Page 273:
The following sentence is in error: “We did not detect significant differences in birth year, first exposure year, or age at first exposure, but there were significantly higher proportions in the most highly exposed group (group 4) of lung cancer deaths for both genders.”
The correction is as follows: “We did not detect significant differences in birth year, first exposure year, or age at first exposure, but there were significantly higher proportions of the most highly exposed group (group 4) in lung cancer deceased persons for both genders.”
Page 276:
The following sentence is in error: “However, we found that the proportion of the highest exposure group had significantly greater lung cancer mortality for both genders (Table 4)”
The correction is as follows: “However, we found that there was a significantly higher proportion of persons who belonged to the most highly exposed group (group 4) in lung cancer death cases than in the other death cases for both genders.”
