Abstract
4-AcOC6H4Me was oxidized with O-3-contg. gases (0.4-0.5 Pa) in AcOH in presence of Co(OAc)(2) at 298 K or 368 K to 4-AcOC6H4COOH (yield 85.5%). When the reaction was carried out in (AcO)(2)O in presence of Mn(OAc)(2) and H2SO4, 4-AcOC6H4CH2OAc was the main product (yield 63.3%). After addn. of KBr to the reaction mixt., 4-AcOC6H4CH(OAc)(2) was the main product (yield 68.2%).
