In this paper, terpolymerizations of ethylene, propylene and 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (ENB) were carried out with rac-Et(Ind)(2)ZrCl2/modified-methylaluminiumoxane (MMAO) in n-heptane. Continuous gas feeding method was employed. The rac-Et(Ind)(2)ZrCl2/MMAO catalyst system exhibited very high terpolymerization activity (4.2x10(4) kg.mol(-1) (Zr).h(-1)) at Al/Zr < 1000. The effect of polymerization pressure, [rac-Et(Ind)(2)ZrCl2], [ENB] and ethylene/propylene feed ratio on the terpolymerizations were studied. Terpolymers containing 51 similar to 71 wt% of ethylene units and 0.4 similar to 2.1 wt% of ENB units were produced. The comonomer composition of terpolymers was about the same as the feed composition in the range from ethylene/propylene = 50/50 to ethylene/propylene = 70/30. The triads distribution of some terpolymers made in this work was similar to that of commercialized EPDM.
