Abstract
Ketjubung is the Indonesian name of Datura fastuosa. As in all Daturaspecies the various parts of the plant contain the belladonna alcaloids atropine and scopolamine. A ketjubung intoxication may occur accidentally or intentionally by mixing the seeds with food. This is sometimes done 'just for fun' probably because the delirium procured by the alcaloids may be accompanied by a funny or even clownish behaviour. The case histories of two Indonesian patients with a ketjubung intoxication caused by drinking a tea made from the seeds are described. One had strong visual hallucinations and while squatting snatched with both hands at imaginary objects; the other wildly gesticulated; their queer behaviour excited much laughter. Both patients recovered; they did not remember anything about what had happened
