In this study the solubility of erythritol in methanol + water, ethanol + water, and 1-propanol + water was experimentally measured over the temperature range of (278.15 to 333.15) K at around 5K intervals by employing an analytical stirred-flask method. Experimental result shows that the solubility of erythritol in the binary mixtures increases with the increase of both temperature and mole fraction of water. Results of these measurements were well correlated with the modified Apelblat equation and the Buchwski-Ksiazaczak lambda h equation. It was found that the modified Apelblat equation could give the better correlation results than the Buchwski-Ksiazaczak lambda h equation. In addition, the calculated results show good agreement with the experimental solubilities. Therefore, the experimental data and model parameters would be useful for optimizing the process of purification of erythritol in industry. Crown Copyright (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V.
