Abstract
The effects of replacing dehulled soybean meal (DSBM) by faba beanmeal (FBM) in diets, on growth, nutrient utilization, carcass quality and economic performance of juvenile Nile tilapia are evaluated. Dry matter is measured by drying samples at 105 degree C to constant weight in an oven. Crude protein is measured using the Kjeldahl method. Crude lipid is quantified using chloroform-methanol extraction. Ash content is determined gravimetrically following loss of mass after combustion of a sample in a muffle furnace at 550 degree C for 24 h. The results show that all diets are isonitrogenous, with a crude protein content of circa 27% and isolipidic, with 6% lipid. The results also show conformity with the amino acid requirements except for methionine and phenylalanine.
