The reaction of diethanol amine and benzene sulfonyl chloride produced the benzene sulfonate intermediates, then it was nucleophilicly substituted by 4-nitrophenol and subsequently reduced by hydrazine hydrate in the presence of activated carbon and iron(III) chloride. A new binary aromatic amine, N,N-bis[(4-aminophenoxy)ethyl]benzene sulfonamide was prepared. The intermediates and the final product were structurally characterized by the means of IR, H-1 NMR and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
