Abstract
HEEP COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. Acrylonitrile (ACN) is produced on an industrial scale and is widely used as an intermediate in the manufacture of synthetic fibers and rubbers posing a potential toxic threat to industrial workers. ACN was tested for mutagenicity in bacteria as a preliminary guide to its potential long-term biological effects; it is indeed mutagenic in certain strains of E. coli.
