BIOSIS COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. The accumulation of Cr, Pb, Ni, As, Cu, and Mn was studied in the food, droppings and bones of 24 species of birds from the southwestern Russia, Rostov Oblast, and Kalmykia. Differences were found in lead accumulation in the bones of terrestrial and aquatic birds as well as arsenic accumulation in the bones of birds from various trophic groups. Inverse linear correlation was observed between lead concentration in the bones and body weight. The heavy metal concentration was studied in the food (earthworms) and droppings of rooks from urban and suburban populations. Heavy metal contamination of the food and droppings of rooks from urban populations was found to be higher.
