Documentation of the threshold limit values and biological exposure indices
English
is a chapter of 594530 Documentation of the threshold limit values and biological exposure indices
A TLV-TWA of 5 mg/m3 is recommended for occupational exposure to trichloronaphthalene to minimize the potential for liver injury as well as for chloracne. This TLV is consistent with the TLV-TWA values assigned to the more highly chlorinated members of the chloronaphthalene series, which animal experiments have shown to be somewhat less toxic based on their lower degrees of chlorination. Based on data showing chlorinated naphthalenes can be absorbed dermally, a Skin notation is appropriate for trichloronaphthalene. Sufficient data were not available to recommend SEN or carcinogenicity notations or a TLV-STEL. Whenever there is exposure to any two or more of the chloronaphthalene the mixtures formula should be applied (See appendix C).
