Applications of Florisil - magnesium silicate in chromatographic analysis of pesticides, environmental contaminants, mycotoxins, drugs and other substances are reviewed. The physical properties such as surface area, porosimetric analysis, EDXRA analysis and SEM photograms as well as NMR studies of Florisil (for TLC and HPLC) are described. The chromatographic properties of Florisil are presented in correlation diagrams of retention parameters logk (R-M) comparing the retention behaviour of mono-, bi- and polyfunctional model solutes in various chromatographic systems, using Florisil, silica gel, alumina and mixed silica-magnesia adsorbent. The use of the systems with different selectivity, e.g. Florisil to the separation of natural mixtures as plant extracts, and to the identification of biologically active substances are also presented.
