The construction and evaluation of an all-solid-state type electrode selective to nitrate based on poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) as polymeric membrane, diethyl phthalate as plasticizer and tetradecilammonium nitrate (TDAN) as positively charged ionophore is reported. The constructed electrode showed fast potentiometric response to nitrate in the concentration range from 10(-6) to 10(-2) mol/dm(3) with Nernstian slope of -73.15 +/- 0.28 mV/decade, response time of 15 seconds and life-time of 1 month.
