Abstract
PESTAB. Wild American kestrel eggs were collected from Ithaca, New York 5 days after the last egg of the clutch was laid. Analyses for heavy metals using atomic absorption techniques were carried out. The heavy metal content was, in general, relatively low, with the levels of organochlorine insecticides and PCBs being appreciably higher. The average Ratcliffe's Index (of eggshell thickness) was . 917. There were no obvious correlations between eggshell thickness and mercury, copper, or lead content. The biological significance of the observed heavy metal concentrations is difficult to assess.
