Abstract
HMTC Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane residues (DDTRs) are being found in the Tennessee River system in northeast Alabama. Data has been collected on many types of organisms and indicates that the pollution is occuring through the food chain as well as through hydrologic processes. Methods for isolating DDTRs are dredging or removing contaminated sediments and placing them in a landfill, covering sediments in place, or bypassing water flow around the contaminated area. Alternatives for cleaning up DDTR have been suggested, evaluated, and presented in terms of their engineering, economic, and environmental feasibility. (332 ref.)
