HAPAB Gonad tissue of the seastar Acanthaster collected in 1969 in the Caroline Islands contained from 0.01 to 3.89 ppm p,p'-DDT. Interference by what seemed to be polychlorinated biphenyls occurred in most samples. Starfish collected in 1970 to 1971 from the Mariana Islands, Caroline Islands, Marshall Islands, and Slacher's Reef and the Bunker Group were assayed with no interference and contained from 0.04 to 3.89 ppm p,p'-DDT and from 0.01 to 1.04 ppm dieldrin. DDE could not be quantitated. No marked correlation was observed between organochlorine residues and size of starfish populations. Age is likely to affect accumulation, but this factor cannot be determined in the seastar.
