HAPAB In 4 years ( May, 1961 - April, 1965 ), 203 cases of accidental poisoning were admitted to the Pediatric Ward of King George's Medical College Hospital, Lucknow. Most of the children ( 91.2 percent ) were less than 3 years old. The male:female ratio is 1.6:1. The incidence of kerosene poisoning is the highest ( 59.11 percent ), with opium poisoning next ( 21.67 percent ), and copper sulfate and datura seed poisoning following next ( 5.91 and 3.94 percent, respectively ). Tabulations include 3 cases of naphthalene poisoning, 2 cases of DDT poisoning, and one case of poisoning with rat pills ( barium carbonate ). Two of the naphthalene ball poisoning cases were asymptomatic and discharged after 72 hours, while the third developed jaundice within 10 hours of ingestion and died shortly thereafter.
