Abstract
BIOSIS COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. Volatile comportants of purple starhistle (Centaurea calcitrapa L.) flowerhead buds, flowers, leaves, and stems were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Of the 54 compounds identified, 49 were not previously reported in purple starhistle. cis-Theaspirane and trans-theaspirane are reported for the first time in a species of Compositae. Purple starhistle and yellow starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis L.) volatiles are compared.
